The “Splitting Hatchet with Collar Guard” is forged & ground to a concave with a quite thin, but very tough sharp blade at the bit. This special design helps the axe go fast into the wood, & then split efficiently when the thicker part of the axe pushes apart the wood. The 2-1/2″ head face of the axe is made of the highest quality Swedish steel available. This hatchet can be managed with one hand & is designed to split small to medium size wood chunks. The axe has a steel collar guard for extra durability & sturdiness as well. The bottom grip of the 19″ long hickory handle is roughened which gives a steady grip even when one’s hands are wet or sticky. Also of important note, these splitting axes are not designed for pounding wedges! Only the “Splitting Maul” No. 450 is designed for this! Axe weighs 3-1/2 lb. & includes a grain leather sheath.
Each axe head is hand-forged from special Swedish steel which is then honed, tempered, & annealed to the perfect hardness by the experienced Gränsfors Bruk Swedish smiths who stamp their initials on the head, creating a one-of-a-kind masterpiece you’ll treasure for years to come.
